Monchique has a range of shops which cater for all day
to day needs, as well as a vegetable market and a fresh fish market. There are
many good and inexpensive restaurants within a short distance of Casa Rosa,
which is about 4kms above Monchique off the road which ascends to Foia, the
highest point in the Algarve.
The drive from the airport is about 1 hour, the south
coast 35mins. and the unspoilt west coast 45 mins.
There are several attractive walks through the cork oak, olive and eucalyptus plantations in the surrounding area to Casa Rosa. Golf and tennis can be enjoyed on a visitor basis on the coast and the nearest golf course is Golfe do Morgado and is about 20 mins. drive. Penina is about 35 mins. drive and has hosted the Portuguese Open. Here there are 18 and 9 hole courses. There are several other courses to choose from within 45 mins. drive. Tennis courts are also available at Penina, Alvor and Carvoeiro. Car hire is essential and usually cheaper when pre-booked in U.K.
